Operation Dignity Inc

Operation Dignity is an organization that has been actively combatting homelessness since 1993. It was established by Alex McElree, a Vietnam War veteran who personally experienced addiction and homelessness. After overcoming his own challenges, Alex gathered a few beds and initiated a shelter in a small house in Oakland. When naming the program, Alex and his fellow veterans sought a name that would honor their military service and reflect their aspirations for a dignified civilian life. Thus, they chose the name "Operation Dignity." Over the years, Operation Dignity has expanded and currently owns three properties that provide shelter and housing to approximately 100 veterans and their families on any given night. This amounts to assisting around 200 individuals each year, offering them a safe and supportive environment as they transition out of homelessness.
